What to do in and around Shimbwe

The guest house is an ideal starting point to discover a traditional Chagga village and its beautiful surroundings. Shimbwe offers numerous hiking possibilities, from simple, short walks to full-day hikes. We can also arrange mountain bike tours.

During all walks you can be accompanied by a local guide who will explain about the local life in Shimbwe and the nature of the Kilimanjaro region.

As our guest house is directly located in the mountain village of Shimbwe, you can start exploring the village life right from our door step. You can learn about local life, taste local fruits and drinks and even learn how to make coffee from scratch.

For our guests who are staying two nights at the Guest house we are offering this tour combined with a visit at Materuni Waterfall (with a local guide).

A wonderful trip for all age groups is this half-day walk to the magnificent Materuni waterfall, with 80m the highest waterfall of the Kilimanjaro region. Don’t forget to bring your swim trunks as a dip in the ice-cold melting water of Kilimanjaro right beneath the waterfall is an unforgettable experience.

For our guests who are staying two nights at the Guest house we are offering this tour combined with a cultural walk in the village of Shimbwe (with a local guide).

This longer hike leads up to the border of the Kilimanjaro National Park, to an altitude of about 1,900 meters. Our guest house runs a small campground here. Enjoy a delicious dinner around the campfire and spend the night before you return to Shimbwe the next morning.

2-3 persons: 50 USD
more than 4 persons: 40 USD

This hike requires good fitness. The full-day tour leads through dense forest and you can enjoy scenic views. The remote Mongioni waterfalls make this tour a unique experience.
